Driving in foggy conditions

With foggy conditions affecting parts of Staffordshire, motorists are being urged to take extra care when travelling.

Reduced visibility can make driving particularly hazardous, so please remember:

Slow down and allow extra time for your journey.

Use dipped headlights and fog lights when visibility is seriously reduced, but switch fog lights off when conditions improve.

Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front, as stopping distances are increased on damp roads.

Avoid sudden breaking or sharp manoeuvers.

Ensure your windscreen is clean and windows are demisted before setting off.

Stay alert for vulnerabale road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, who may be harder to see in foggy conditions.

If visibility becomes too poor to continue safely, find a suitable place to stop and wait for conditions to improve.

Please take care on the roads and help keep yourselves and others safe.
