On Saturday 7th November 2026, PCSO Beckie Titcombe, PCSO Majid Sethi and PC Baris Yerli from Ilford Town Ward hosted a crime prevention stall outside The Exchange in Ilford Town Centre between 9:00am and 2:00pm. The event provided an excellent opportunity for local officers to engage directly with members of the community and offer crime prevention advice ahead of the festive season. With increased social events and celebrations taking place during this time of year, officers focused conversations on a number of important safety topics, including responsible firework use, Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), and the risks associated with drink and needle spiking.
Throughout the day, officers spoke with a wide range of residents, visitors and local businesses, providing practical advice on how to stay safe, report concerns and access support services where necessary. The team also discussed the importance of looking out for friends and family during nights out, as well as encouraging safe and responsible use of fireworks to help prevent injuries and anti-social behaviour.
The stall proved extremely popular, with many people stopping to speak with their local neighbourhood officers. These conversations helped strengthen relationships within the community and gave residents the opportunity to discuss local issues, ask questions and learn more about the work being carried out by their Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Officers were also pleased to get people to sign up to Met Engage, enabling them to receive updates, crime prevention advice and information about local policing activity directly from their neighbourhood team.
A special mention must go to PC Baris Yerli, who was able to join the PCSO's for the event and brought fantastic energy throughout the day. His enthusiasm, humour and approachable manner encouraged many members of the public to engage with officers. He was particularly successful in interacting with young people and families, inspiring some of our future officers by speaking positively about policing and sharing his experiences within the role.
Ilford Town Ward would like to thank everyone who stopped by to speak with the team and support the event. We look forward to continuing to work closely with our community and seeing many of our new Met Engage members at future local events.
