I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Dear Residents,
I’m writing to ask everyone to take a few extra steps to help keep our community safe following recent reports of vehicle theft and theft from vehicles in the area.
Thieves are often opportunistic, so small changes can make a big difference:
Vehicles • Always lock your vehicle, even if you’re only leaving it for a minute, and close all windows and sunroof fully. • Do not leave valuables on display – including bags, phones, sat navs, laptops, tools, sunglasses, and loose change. Take them with you or lock them out of sight in the boot before you arrive. • Park in well-lit, busy areas where possible. • If you have a keyless / wireless key fob, store it in a Faraday pouch when at home to block the signal and help prevent relay theft. Keep keys away from doors and windows.
Your home • Lock downstairs windows and doors at night and when you go out, even if you’re only popping out briefly. • Keep side gates locked and don’t leave keys in locks or in sight of windows. • If you have outside lights, CCTV, or a video doorbell, please make sure they are working – they can be a strong deterrent.
Please report it If you see anything suspicious – someone trying car doors, loitering around vehicles or driveways, unfamiliar vehicles driving slowly through streets, or anything that just doesn’t feel right – please report it. • In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress: call 999 • For non-emergency reports: call 101 • You can also share concerns and local intelligence via South Wales Listens Even if nothing was taken, please still report it. It helps police build a picture of what’s happening and increase patrols where they’re needed most.
Thank you for looking out for each other. If we all take these small steps, we can make it much harder for thieves to operate in our area.
Kind Regards
PCSO - Kyle Paylor - SWP59935
