Intel about a Scam Call

Dear Residents,

Apologies for the second post of the day but I have just been informed about the below from a Broad Green PCSO.

I just want to make you aware of a fraud scam via landline or mobile phone, whereby a male is claiming to be a PC or DC Cole from Brixton Police Station.

The fraudster is posing as an officer claiming he has arrested your son or grandson, and he is now in custody in Brixton. The person arrested has correspondence from you and has tried to obtain goods from a shop.

The fraudster then tries to obtain information from you and states that the person arrested also had bank cards in your name in his possession and asks you to confirm your bank details.

Things to know about protecting yourself.

Please never give out any details about your bank or any bank numbers. Police officer will never ask you for these details over the phone or for money.

The scammers use urgent or aggressive language to panic you into taking immediate action.

No Caller ID. While the police do sometimes call from withheld numbers, fraudsters use this to mask their identity.

What should you do

Hang up immediately. Please do not give out any personal, family or financial information.

If you want to check if a call is from the Metropolitan Police. Take the officers details and call the non-emergency number 101.

Report the scam to Action Fraud.

Please always be carefully, and never give out personal information over the phone to anyone.
