I wanted to provide you with an update regarding I have no issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Dear Residents,
As Bonfire Night approaches, South Wales Police would like to remind everyone to enjoy the celebrations safely, responsibly and respectfully.
Fireworks can be a fun part of the festivities, but they can also pose risks if not used correctly. We encourage everyone to follow some simple safety advice to help keep themselves, their families and their communities safe.
Firework Safety - Always buy fireworks from licensed and reputable retailers. - Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. - Never give fireworks to young children. - Keep a safe distance from fireworks once they have been lit. - Never return to a firework that has failed to ignite. - Keep pets indoors wherever possible and ensure they have a quiet, secure place to retreat to. - Consider attending organised public displays where possible, as these are usually the safest way to enjoy fireworks.
Bonfires - Build bonfires well away from buildings, vehicles, fences and overhead cables. - Never use flammable liquids such as petrol to start or encourage a fire. - Check bonfires thoroughly for animals, particularly hedgehogs and other wildlife, before lighting. - Ensure a responsible adult supervises the fire at all times. - Respect Your Community
While many people enjoy Bonfire Night, others may find it distressing, including elderly residents, young children, those with sensory sensitivities, pet owners and livestock keepers.
Please:
- Be considerate of your neighbours. - Avoid setting off fireworks late at night. - Dispose of fireworks and other litter responsibly. - Respect local parks, open spaces and public property. - Positive Behaviour
We want everyone to enjoy the celebrations safely and without incident. Anti-social behaviour, the misuse of fireworks, damage to property, or throwing fireworks at people, vehicles, emergency workers or animals is dangerous and may result in police action.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak to young people about making sensible choices and looking out for their friends.
