Bonfire Night & Fireworks Safety Message

Bonfire Night & Fireworks Safety Message

As many people celebrate Bonfire Night, please help keep yourself, your family, and your community safe by following some simple safety advice:

🎆 Firework Safety

Only buy fireworks from reputable retailers and ensure they carry the appropriate safety markings.

Follow the instructions carefully and use fireworks responsibly.

Keep a safe distance and never return to a firework once it has been lit.

Never throw fireworks or carry them in your pocket.

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.

Keep pets indoors where possible and make sure they have a quiet, safe space.

🔥 Bonfire Safety

Build bonfires well away from buildings, fences, sheds, trees, and overhead cables.

Check bonfires thoroughly for wildlife, particularly hedgehogs, before lighting.

Keep spectators at a safe distance and supervise children at all times.

Never use flammable liquids such as petrol to start or revive a fire.

Have water or a fire extinguisher readily available in case of emergency.

🚔 Community Safety

Please be considerate of neighbours, particularly young children, elderly residents, and pet owners.

Dispose of used fireworks safely once they have fully cooled down.

Report any anti-social behaviour or dangerous use of fireworks to the police using the appropriate reporting methods.

Let's all enjoy Bonfire Night responsibly and help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening. Stay safe, look out for one another, and help make it a memorable night for all the right reasons. 🎇🎆

Remember: Fireworks can be great fun when used safely, but misuse can lead to serious injuries, fires, and anti-social behaviour. Be responsible, respect your community, and celebrate safely.
