What is a PSPO PSPOs are a legal power that allows councils to restrict or ban specific activities within a defined public area. They are designed to address persistent anti-social behaviour that has a negative impact on the local community's quality of life.
PSPOs last three years. After this time, they either expire or can be extended. To be extended, there has to be evidence that they are still needed and residents must have been able to share their views.
Sutton used to have 17 different PSPOs across 64 locations, mainly targeting alcohol-related anti-social behaviour. These expired on 20 October 2026.
We are now proposing a new PSPO to deal with a wider range of anti-social behaviours. The new PSPO has been designed to address complaints about anti-social behaviour that the Council and Police have received over the last 18 months.
