Halloween – Crime Prevention Advice
With Halloween approaching, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team would like to remind residents to stay safe and be considerate of others within the community.
Trick-or-Treating Safety
* Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult. * Stay in groups and use well-lit routes. * Only visit properties where trick-or-treaters are welcome. * Respect residents who do not wish to participate. * Never enter a stranger’s property.
Advice for Residents
* Ensure doors and windows are securely locked. * Do not feel pressured to open your door to unexpected visitors. * Display a ‘No Trick or Treaters’ sign if you do not wish to participate. * Look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours who may feel intimidated or distressed.
Anti-Social Behaviour
* Halloween is not an excuse for anti-social behaviour. * Throwing eggs, damaging property, threatening or intimidating residents is unacceptable and may constitute a criminal offence. * Be mindful of noise levels and respect other people’s property. * Parents and guardians are encouraged to remind children to behave responsibly.
Reporting Incidents
If you witness criminal activity or anti-social behaviour, please report it to the police.
* 999 – In an emergency or if a crime is in progress. * 101 – For non-emergency incidents.
We encourage everyone to enjoy Halloween safely and responsibly while respecting others in the community.
