A man from the Glossop area has been sentenced to prison after repeatedly subjecting emergency service call handlers to prolonged verbal abuse.
John Lomas-Wilson, 34 of Spire Hollin pleaded guilty to two offences of sending, via a public communications network, messages of an offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing nature.
The charges related to two separate incidents in which Lomas-Wilson called the Northwest Ambulance Service and verbally abused call handlers for more than 30 minutes on each occasion.
At court, he was sentenced to four months' imprisonment after a guilty plea.
In addition, a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) was imposed. The order prohibits Lomas-Wilson from being abusive towards any employee, volunteer or representative of a public service, charitable organisation or support service. It also prevents him from contacting emergency services unless he is in genuine need of an immediate emergency response. This CBO will remain in place for two years.
Emergency service staff work tirelessly to support people in times of need. Abuse towards those carrying out this vital role will not be tolerated, and we will continue to take action against those who target frontline workers.
