Burglary Prevention

Burglary Prevention

With the clocks having gone back and the evenings becoming darker much earlier, your local GMP Neighbourhood Team is encouraging residents across Wardleworth, Milkstone & Deeplish to take a few simple steps to help protect their homes and property.

Burglars often look for easy opportunities, particularly during the autumn and winter months when homes appear unoccupied.

Here are some simple crime prevention measures you can take:

• Always lock doors and windows, even if you're only leaving home for a short time.
• Use timer switches on lamps to make your home appear occupied when you're out.
• Ensure side gates, sheds and garages are locked and secure.
• Keep valuables, car keys, handbags and electronic devices out of sight.
• Consider installing security lighting, CCTV or a video doorbell where appropriate.
• Avoid leaving packaging for expensive items on display outside your property.
• Keep hedges and fences maintained to remove places for offenders to hide.
• Ask trusted neighbours to keep an eye on your property if you're away.
• Be vigilant of unknown individuals acting suspiciously around homes, alleyways or vehicles.

Our officers will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols and targeted activity across Wardleworth, Milkstone & Deeplish to help deter criminality and provide reassurance to local residents.

If you see anything suspicious, report it to GMP via 101, online, or call 999 in an emergency.

Together, we can help keep our communities safe this winter.
