Halloween Safety & Crime Prevention

Dear Roehampton residents,

Halloween is a great time for families and communities to come together. By taking a few simple precautions, everyone can enjoy a safe and enjoyable evening.

👻 Trick-or-Treating Safely

Young children should be accompanied by an adult.

Older children should stay in groups and let someone know their route.

Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a torch.

Cross roads safely and avoid running between parked cars.

Only visit homes that appear to be participating.

Respect residents who do not wish to take part.

Keep mobile phones charged and carry emergency contact details.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents and Guardians

Know where your child is going and when they will return.

Encourage children to stay in well-lit, familiar areas.

Check costumes for visibility, fire safety, and trip hazards.

Remind children never to accept lifts from strangers.

🔒 Crime Prevention

Lock doors and windows, even if you're expecting visitors.

Keep valuables out of sight.

Lock vehicles and remove all valuables.

Report anti-social behaviour, vandalism, or criminal damage to police.

🏠 Residents

If you're taking part:

Keep pathways well lit and free from hazards.

Keep pets secure.

Display decorations to show visitors are welcome.

If you're not taking part:

Avoid displaying Halloween decorations.

Consider displaying a polite notice such as:
“Sorry, we are not celebrating Halloween this year. Thank you for respecting our wishes.”
