Fraud advice from Norfolk Constabulary.
Please share this fraud advice with anyone you know who may be vulnerable. If everyone who is signed up to this system shares this information with just one other family we’ll help protect thousands more people across Norfolk.
We’re issuing this advice after we had several fraud attempts reported to us last night of scammers pretending to the police officers to gain information. We had calls from Suffolk, East Sussex and North Yorkshire that members of the public have been called over the phone by scammers pretending to be Norfolk police officers and asking for personal information.
The scammers appear to be calling from a cloned number so when called back, it goes through to Norfolk Police switchboard. If you receive a call from an officer and wish to check their identity, we advise hanging up and calling 101 - ideally from a different phone. An officer will never mind waiting for you to check their identity via the control room.
Your bank or the police will NEVER ask for your PIN, bank card or bank account details over the phone –do not give these details to anybody.
Please share this message with anyone who you think may be vulnerable.
