A home in darkness is a home targeted by burglars.

With the clocks going back an hour on Sunday morning, it's easy to get caught out over the coming months by leaving your home in darkness from the late afternoon.

Opportunist burglars will be on the lookout for an easy win, with an empty home presenting little to no risk of being detected.

By keeping your home lit and looking occupied, you're keeping the criminals guessing. Plug-in timers and smart bulbs are both great ways to deter burglars.

Over the past 12 ward-exclusive campaigns since 2013/14, more than 400 homes in darkness have been identified by the team, with handouts left for returning residents. The team will be back out this winter to help keep homes on Eastbrook and Rush Green as secure as possible.
