I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle Crime - Theft of a vehicle, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Community Safety - Vehicle Crime Prevention We've received reports of suspicious activity in and around Hinckley during the early hours of the morning, including CCTV footage showing unidentified individuals checking parked vehicles and trying door handles in residential streets. Also vehicles often in convoy driving around targeted locations. There have also been reports of car key break-ins and concerns around keyless vehicle thefts. Opportunist offenders are often looking for unlocked vehicles, valuables left inside, or attempting to target vehicles fitted with keyless entry systems. How keyless vehicle theft works 🚗 Criminals may use electronic devices to capture or relay the signal from your key fob inside your home to your vehicle outside. This can trick the vehicle into thinking the key is present, allowing access and, in some cases, enabling the vehicle to be driven away. How to protect your vehicle ✅ Always lock your vehicle, even when parked on your driveway. ✅ Double-check doors are secure before leaving your vehicle. ✅ Remove valuables and personal items from sight. ✅ Keep keyless entry fobs away from doors, windows and external walls. ✅ Store keyless car keys in a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) or metal container when not in use. ✅ If possible, enable additional security features such as steering wheel locks, immobilisers, alarms or tracking devices. ✅ Ensure any home CCTV or doorbell cameras are operational and positioned to capture activity around parked vehicles. Please remain vigilant If you notice anyone acting suspiciously around parked vehicles, checking door handles, looking into vehicles, or loitering in residential areas during the early hours, please report it. If safe to do so, note descriptions, locations, vehicle registrations, and retain any CCTV footage. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat, call 999. For non-emergency incidents, report via 101 or at : https://leicspolice.link/qxImM Together we can help protect our neighbourhoods and reduce opportunities for vehicle crime. Stay safe
