On Wednesday 21 October 2026, neighbourhood policing teams from Plaistow West & Canning Town East Ward joined colleagues from Plaistow South, Custom House, Beckton, and the British Transport Police to carry out a proactive drugs operation outside Plaistow Underground Station. Supported by specialist passive drugs dogs, officers were deployed between 12:00pm and 6:00pm, focusing on identifying individuals involved in drug-related offending and helping to keep the local area safe for residents, commuters and businesses. Despite persistent poor weather throughout the day, officers maintained a highly visible presence outside the station, engaging with members of the public, providing reassurance and taking positive action where offences were identified. Operation OutcomesOperations such as this play an important role in disrupting criminal activity, deterring offending and responding to concerns raised by local communities. They also provide valuable opportunities for officers to engage directly with residents and those travelling through the area. The commitment shown by officers throughout the operation reflects the ongoing dedication of neighbourhood policing teams to making Newham's communities safer. By working proactively and remaining visible in key locations, officers continue to tackle crime, disrupt those involved in offending and help maintain public confidence in policing. We would like to thank local residents and commuters for their patience and support during the operation, especially those who took the time to speak with officers on the day despite the poor weather conditions. These conversations are invaluable in helping us understand local concerns, build community relationships and ensure our policing activity continues to address the issues that matter most to residents.
