Staffordshire Police are advising residents to remain vigilant following reports of vehicles being stolen in the Cannock and Rugeley area. It is believed offenders may be targeting keyless entry vehicles by using electronic devices to capture or relay the signal from vehicle keys, allowing them to gain entry and drive away without the key being physically present. To help protect your vehicle, please consider the following crime prevention measures: 🔒 Use visible security devices - Fit a steering wheel lock or other physical security device.
- Consider pedal locks or wheel clamps where appropriate.
- Visible deterrents can make your vehicle a less attractive target.
🔑 Protect your keys - Keep vehicle keys well away from doors, windows and letterboxes.
- Store keyless entry fobs in a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) when not in use.
- Never leave spare keys inside the vehicle.
📹 Improve surveillance - Consider installing CCTV or a video doorbell covering your driveway or parking area.
- Ensure any existing cameras are working correctly and images are clear.
💡 Secure where you park - Park in a garage if available.
- If parking on a driveway, position your vehicle in a well-lit area.
- Lock your vehicle at all times and ensure windows are fully closed.
👀 Stay vigilant - Be alert to suspicious activity, particularly individuals lingering near parked vehicles or acting unusually around driveways.
- Report suspicious behaviour promptly.
If you have any information relating to vehicle crime in your area, or if you witness suspicious activity, please report it via 101 or online. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress. |
