South Wales Police has launched its own fleet of Sur-Rons to improve the force’s capability to tackle crime. The lightweight and high-powered electric motorcycles are the latest investment by the force to respond to issues raised by the public, such as drug offences and theft. With their slim and light frames, the e-motorcycles will allow officers to respond to crimes in busy, congested areas, allowing them to cut through traffic or access to narrow roads that police cars can’t navigate.
Assistant Chief Constable Tom Williams said: "This new investment is our latest tactic development to tackle criminal activity in our community. As the policing landscape changes, I want to reassure the community that we are developing our capabilities to meet the challenges." The force is committed to improving its capability to respond to crime, and has recently also invested in training for drone pilots, along with six new drones purchased between the force and the Police Crime and Commissioner.
ACC Williams added:“We will continue to invest in technology and the capabilities needed to identify and pursue criminals. This includes expanding our drone team and exploring additional equipment to strengthen the evidence we can gather and increase opportunities to bring offenders to justice.” Police Crime and Commissioner Emma Wools said: "I'm pleased to support this latest expansion in South Wales Police as creating safer communities for everyone is a key priority in my Police, Crime and Justice Plan. This improved capability will enable the force to continue to focus on tackling and responding to the issues in our communities." | ||||
