ROAD CLOSURE KEEPS PUBLIC SAFE FOLLOWING VEHICLE FIRE |

|
At approximately 12.40 hours today, (Wednesday 21 October), police received a report of a vehicle on fire at Findern Lane, Willington, near the Mercia Marina development.
A member of the public reported that a car was ablaze in the roadway, prompting Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to attend and tackle the incident.
The fire was successfully brought under control and, thankfully, no one was injured.
Local police attended to maintain public safety, with Findern Lane remaining closed for almost three hours while emergency services dealt with the scene. The intensity of the fire was so significant that the vehicle melted into the road surface.
Derbyshire County Council's Highways Team was also deployed after a substantial quantity of fuel was spilled onto the carriageway, requiring specialist treatment to make the road safe.
We would like to thank the vast majority of motorists who respected the road closure and followed directions to use alternative routes.
Unfortunately, some drivers challenged officers and demanded access through the closure, with one motorist complaining they would miss a luncheon engagement.
Such behaviour is unacceptable. Road closures following a vehicle fire or collision are put in place to protect the public, emergency responders and road users. Please follow the instructions of officers at the scene and help us keep everyone safe.
