🚪⚠️ Doorstep Charity Collectors – Stay Safe and Stay Vigilant ⚠️🚪 |

Many genuine charity workers carry out valuable fundraising within our communities, however fraudsters can sometimes use the guise of charity collections, sales, or donations to target vulnerable residents and obtain money dishonestly. Here are some simple steps to help protect yourself: ✅ Always ask for identification Genuine charity collectors should carry official photo ID and be happy to show it to you. Take your time to inspect it and do not feel pressured into making an immediate decision. ✅ Don't be afraid to shut the door A genuine collector will understand if you wish to verify their credentials before speaking further. Fraudsters often rely on putting people under pressure to make quick decisions. ✅ Check the charity Ask for the charity's name and visit their official website or contact them directly using a number you have sourced yourself. Never rely on phone numbers or websites provided solely by the caller. ✅ Be wary of cash requests Many legitimate charities now encourage donations through official websites, card payments, or direct fundraising platforms. Be cautious if someone insists on cash donations only. ✅ Watch out for pressure tactics Fraudsters may claim the donation is urgent, that they are helping a local cause, or that they will miss a fundraising target unless you pay immediately. Take your time and do not feel obliged to donate. ✅ Use your doorstep security Consider using a door chain, door viewer, video doorbell, or speaking through a closed door if you are unsure. ✅ Trust your instincts If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Politely decline and close the door. 🚨 How can you tell if they're genuine? There is no single way to guarantee someone is genuine simply by looking at them. The safest approach is to: • Ask for identification. • Verify the charity independently. • Never feel pressured into donating immediately. • Refuse any requests that make you uncomfortable. 👥 Please check in on elderly relatives, friends, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to this type of scam and encourage them to follow this advice. 📞 If you believe a fraudster has called at your address, or you have concerns about suspicious doorstep activity, please report it to Staffordshire Police via 101, or dial 999 in an emergency. #DoorstepSafety #FraudPrevention #CommunitySafety #StayVigilant 🏡👮♂️🔒 | ||
