I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti-social behaviour - general, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Halloween can be a fantastic time for families, friends, and communities to come together and enjoy the festivities. However, we would like to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly and be mindful of the impact their actions can have on others.
๐ Respect People's Homes & Property Not everyone chooses to celebrate Halloween, and it's important to respect residents' wishes. If a property is not decorated or does not appear to be participating, please avoid knocking on the door.
โ Throwing eggs, flour, paint, or other items at homes, vehicles, or people is not harmless fun and may amount to criminal damage or anti-social behaviour.
โ Climbing on walls, entering gardens without permission, or causing damage to decorations, fences, or vehicles can result in police action.
โ
Be respectful, stay with friends, and help make Halloween enjoyable for everyone.
๐ Firework Safety With Halloween often leading into Bonfire Night celebrations, we also want to remind everyone about the safe and lawful use of fireworks.
๐ฅ Never throw fireworks or direct them towards people, vehicles, homes, emergency workers, or animals.
๐ฅ Only purchase fireworks from reputable retailers and always follow the safety instructions.
๐ฅ Be considerate of your neighbours, especially families with young children, elderly residents, pets, and those who may be vulnerable.
The misuse of fireworks can cause serious injuries, fires, and unnecessary fear within our communities.
๐งก Safeguarding & Looking Out for Others Halloween events often take place after dark, and we encourage everyone to take simple steps to stay safe:
๐ฑ Keep your mobile phone charged and let someone know where you are going.
๐ถ Stay in well-lit areas and travel with friends where possible.
๐ Look out for younger children, vulnerable people, and anyone who may need assistance.
๐จ If you see suspicious behaviour or someone who appears to be at risk, report it to the police.
๐ Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) We recognise that darker evenings and large social gatherings can make some women and girls feel more vulnerable.
Everyone has a role to play in creating safe spaces within our communities.
โ
Challenge inappropriate behaviour when safe to do so.
โ
Look out for friends, family members, and colleagues during nights out and social events.
โ
Respect personal boundaries and understand that harassment, intimidation, unwanted attention, and abusive behaviour are never acceptable.
โ
If you see someone who appears uncomfortable, isolated, or at risk, check in on them and seek help where necessary.
Together, we can help make our communities safer and support efforts to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls.
โ๏ธ Reporting If you witness anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, harassment, or the dangerous misuse of fireworks, please report it to Kent Police.
๐ In an emergency, or if there is an immediate risk to someone's safety, always call 999.
Let's ensure Halloween is remembered for the right reasons by being respectful, considerate, and looking out for one another.

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.kent.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
