Good evening Resident, I just wanted to provide a brief overview on what I have been involved with in the local area over the last couple of weeks. While on foot patrol along Northdown Road this afternoon I sighted a driver using his mobile phone whilst driving. This was at the end of the school day, with lots of members of public and children walking in the area. The driver was stopped and issued with a Traffic Offence Report for using his mobile phone whilst driving. The maximum penalty for this offence is 6 penalty points and a £200 fine. Following intelligence provided from members of the local community I stopped a vehicle on Sweyn Road, suspecting that there was no insurance in place against the vehicle. Checks confirmed that this was the case, and that the driver had an expired driving licence. The male was reported for the offences of driving without third party insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and the vehicle was seized. The driver now faces the prospect of several further endorsements on his driving licence, monetary fines, as well as storage and recovery costs for the seized vehicle. Enquiries conducted at local stores following the arrest of a male in the area of Clifton Place for several shoplifting offences earlier this afternoon. At the time of writing they are being processed by the Victim Based Crime Team in Thanet. Following the sighting of two people travelling on an e-bike along Northdown Road last night, the bike was located in College Square. While the rider made off from police, they didn’t feel the need to wait for their pillion passenger, or recover their rucksack containing personal effects. Enquiries are ongoing as to the rider of this bike, and when identified they will be dealt with accordingly, and efforts made to seize the bike under Road Traffic Act legislation. Several stop searches conducted for potential drug offences, including vehicle searches. The outcomes of these searches range from no further action, to individuals being dealt with for possession related offences. In one such case last week, an individual was arrested for drug supply offences following a stop search. This resulted in a premises search, overseen by myself, during which further drug paraphernalia was located. Thanet’s CID department subsequently took ownership of the investigation. I have also attended the roads surrounding Palm Bay school in recent weeks, specifically around the end of the school day. Several road users were found to be parked and waiting either on double yellow lines, or in the bus stop; both of these areas are prohibited. Words of advice were given to these road users, reminding them that the road markings are in place to help keep the school children safe, and minimise the risk to not only them, but other road users and pedestrians. I intend to return to the area after the half term break, and with support of colleagues within Thanet’s Neighbourhood Policing Team I will be conducting road traffic patrols at relevant times. As with the vehicle reported for having no insurance on Sweyn Road, a lot of our activity depends on information provided by members of the community.
