Residents and business owners have recently raised concerns about a number of bridge strikes and near misses by HGVs and large vehicles at a height-restricted railway bridge in a South Derbyshire village.
And these concerns were the driving force behind a recent road safety patrol on Repton Road, Willington, yesterday, (Monday 19 October).
Your local officer joined Derbyshire County Council representative, Councillor Matt Benfield, to engage directly with local people to listen to their concerns, and discuss what action can be taken to improve safety at the location.
And it was wonderful to spend time with the friendly team from the Cottage Garden Florist shop. Situated close to the railway bridge, staff from the florist are often among the first to become aware of bridge strikes involving vehicles.
Other local residents also shared concerns about a growing trend of inconsiderate driving and near misses on two mini-roundabouts in the heart of the village.
During the patrol, police reiterated that road safety and tackling anti-social driving remains a key priority for the local safer neighbourhood team, with enforcement and educational activity continuing across the area.
Councillor Matt Benfield also discussed efforts to minimise the impact of forthcoming roadworks and the potential effects on local residents and businesses.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop and speak with us. Engagement like this helps ensure that police, local representatives and residents continue working together to keep Willington a safe, welcoming and thriving community.
