The recent Suffolk Neighbourhood Watch Association Area meeting at the Fromus Centre, Street Farm Road in Saxmundham, enabled us to further develop our Working for a Safer Suffolk event programme. The event brought together neighbourhood watch members and scheme coordinators, alongside the police, trading standards and parish & town councillors Paul Miles from Suffolk Trading Standards shared with the meeting some background to the "Suffolk Against Fraud” initiative, which was launched earlier in the year, comprising a partnership between Suffolk Trading Standards and Suffolk Police, as a joint force for the fight against fraud. Fraud is by far the most common crime and now accounts for over 40% of all offences in the county. The content of the Suffolk Against Fraud presentation, together with links to video content can be found in the attached PDF document. Acting Inspector Chris Shields, from the Halesworth Community Policing Team provided our audience with a brief on the government’s new Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee and its implications, and an insight into Clear Hold Build initiative which seeks to remove embedded crime activity from given areas across Suffolk. This was followed by an update of the police messaging system “SuffolkConnected” to underline the importance on how the police engage with communities across Suffolk, and an overview as to how priorities for Community Policing Teams are established. |
