As the evenings get darker and the nights draw in, now is a good time to think about home security. Taking a few simple precautions can make your property less attractive to opportunist burglars and help keep you, your family and your belongings safe.

🏠 Burglary Prevention Advice

✅ Lock all doors and windows, even when you are at home.

✅ Ensure sheds, garages and other outbuildings are secure and locked.

✅ Leave a light on when you're out or use timer switches to make your home appear occupied.

✅ Keep keys, wallets, handbags and other valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.

✅ Consider installing CCTV, video doorbells or security lighting.

✅ Avoid advertising holidays or time away from home by posting live updates on social media.

✅ Mark valuable property and keep a record of serial numbers where possible.

A well-lit, secure and occupied-looking home is far less likely to be targeted by criminals.

Burglars often rely on going unnoticed. If you see unfamiliar individuals acting suspiciously, trying door handles, looking into vehicles, scouting properties, or loitering in areas where they wouldn't normally be, please report it. What may seem insignificant could be a vital piece of information that helps prevent a burglary or identify an offender.
