Thank you Dulwich Wood |

After 4½ years policing Dulwich Wood Ward, it's time for me to say goodbye.
This week, I'll be moving on from my role as your local ward officer, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible privilege it has been to serve this community.
Over the last four and a half years, Dulwich Wood has become far more than just a policing ward to me. I've spent countless hours walking its streets, parks, estates and schools, getting to know the people, places and challenges that make this area so unique.
From spending evenings patrolling the Kingswood Estate, carrying out school patrols from West Dulwich through to Dulwich College, walking Alleyn Park at the busiest times of day, and conducting patrols through Sydenham Hill Woods on bright summer afternoons and dark winter evenings alike, I've always tried to be visible, approachable and proactive.
During my time here, I've been involved in foot chases, arrests, stop and searches, warrants, proactive operations, safeguarding vulnerable residents, responding to immediate emergencies and supporting victims through some of the most difficult moments in their lives. I've attended countless meetings, engaged with schools, residents, businesses and partner agencies, and worked alongside colleagues to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and the issues that matter most to local people.
Some of the moments I am proudest of won't ever make the headlines. Helping a vulnerable person access the support they needed. Completing mental health assessments to ensure someone received the right care. Being first on scene when somebody needed help. Providing local knowledge that helped officers get where they needed to be faster. Reassuring a victim after a traumatic incident. Taking the time to listen to residents and act on their concerns.
Policing is often measured in statistics, arrests and crime figures, but for me it has always been about people. The relationships built, the trust earned and the small moments where you know you've made a positive difference to somebody's day, and hopefully their life.
I have been fortunate enough to work alongside dedicated colleagues, community leaders, schools, partner organisations and residents who genuinely care about making Dulwich Wood a safe and welcoming place to live, work and visit. Together we have achieved a great deal, and I know that work will continue long after I have gone.
While I am excited for my next challenge, leaving Dulwich Wood is not easy. This ward has played a huge part in my policing career and has given me memories, experiences and friendships that I will carry with me forever.
Thank you to everyone who has stopped for a chat on patrol, attended a ward panel meeting, shared information with us, challenged us when we needed it, and supported the work we do.
It has been an absolute honour to police Dulwich Wood.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your community.
Kindest regards, PC Francesca Wake 3094AS | ||
