Police are reminding businesses and retailers to remain vigilant following an incident in which counterfeit banknotes were used to pay for groceries at a Co-op store on High Street, Felixstowe.
The incident occurred on Sunday 18 October between 5.22pm and 5.33pm.
A man wearing a high-visibility top entered the store with a woman and two children. The group proceeded to purchase groceries, with the man using counterfeit notes with a total face value of £100 to pay for the items.
The man then left the store, leaving the woman at the checkout. A member of staff became suspicious and examined the banknotes, subsequently identifying them as counterfeit.
When challenged by staff, the woman dropped several magazines and fled the store.
Businesses are encouraged to remain alert to the possibility of counterfeit currency being used and to ensure staff are familiar with the security features of genuine banknotes.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the shop or the surrounding area at the time and may have witnessed anything suspicious, or who may have information that could assist enquiries.
