Autumn Nights Crime Prevention Advice

Here is some practical advice from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team:

🏠 Burglary Prevention

• Keep doors and windows locked, even when you are at home.
• Use timer switches on lights when out during the evening.
• Ensure side gates, sheds and garages are securely locked.
• Avoid leaving packaging for high-value items on display outside your property.

🚗 Vehicle Crime Prevention

• Always remove valuables, bags and electronic devices from your vehicle.
• Double-check that your vehicle is locked before walking away.
• Consider using a steering wheel lock or other visible security device.
• Park in well-lit areas where possible and activate any fitted alarms or tracking devices.

🚶 Personal Safety

• Stick to well-lit, busy routes when walking, especially alone.
• Avoid distractions such as mobile phones or headphones that reduce your awareness of your surroundings.
• Let someone know your route and expected arrival time if travelling at night.
• Trust your instincts. If something does not feel right, move to a safer location and seek assistance.
• Keep keys in your hand before reaching your home or vehicle to minimise time spent searching for them.

A few simple precautions can make a big difference in reducing opportunities for crime and helping you feel safer when out and about.
