The Met is cracking down on street crime, like people doing drugs and drinking on the street.
But we know there is more to do. This week we have been tackling the growing problem of persons loitering for the purpose of drug taking and dealing in the area of Whiting Ave Housing Estate in Barking Town Centre, and the negative impact this has on our residents. Both Police wards have been actively conducting weapon sweeps and routine patrols in this area and this is helping to keep it as crime free as can be, as well as safe and secure. We’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams across London, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals - including with new tech like live facial recognition cameras, drones and e-bikes.
We’re now arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals every month and seeing local crimes like burglary, robbery and theft start to fall, with ‘neighbourhood crime’ down 14%.
