I thought I would take today's message to speak to you about the current rise in car crime. While Merton is still one of the safest boroughs in the Met, we still need to be on our guard.
Recently, we've seen a few cars being stolen and in a proportion of the cases, the car was unlocked.
Remember!
· Do not leave your vehicles unsecure!
· Do not leave keys, especially remote locking ones, near the front door!
· Do not leave items of value on show in the car!
While anyone can make a mistake and forget to lock their car, from today, check and double check as there are some opportunistic thieves out there.
From our side of things, we have not let it go by without putting in place a full operation to combat it. Our PCs are already working late shifts, hunting for any individual looking to steal your vehicle. One car has been seized for no MOT, and we've also completed a warrant at an address too.
