Hate Crime Awareness Engagement at Finsbury Park Mosque

Hate Crime Awareness Engagement at Finsbury Park Mosque

See the latest update on hate crime locally—we’re aware and taking action.

The Finsbury Park Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) recently joined the London Borough of Islington Hate Crime Officer at Finsbury Park Mosque to meet with local residents, parents, and young people as part of our ongoing commitment to building safer and more inclusive communities.
During the session, officers delivered a presentation on hate crime awareness, explaining the different forms of hate crime and the impact these offences can have on victims, families, and the wider community. Attendees were also provided with information on how to recognise hate crime and access support services.
Young people played an active role in the event, taking part in a question-and-answer session where they were encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions. Officers welcomed this opportunity to engage with pupils directly and provide advice on staying safe and reporting concerns. A local councillor also attended the event and spoke about her personal experiences, highlighting the importance of community solidarity and mutual respect.
We would like to remind residents that reporting hate crime is vital. Every report helps the police and partner agencies better understand community concerns, identify emerging trends, and ensure appropriate action is taken to prevent and tackle these offences. Even incidents that may seem minor can provide important information that helps protect others and improve community safety.
The event also provided an opportunity for residents to discuss local concerns, learn more about neighbourhood policing, and receive reassurance from officers on issues affecting the community. These conversations are invaluable in helping us understand local priorities and strengthen trust between the police and the communities we serve.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. Your participation helps us work together towards a community where all residents feel safe, respected, and valued, regardless of their background, faith, race, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
If you experience or witness a hate crime, please report it to the police or through the appropriate reporting channels. Every report matters and can help us take action, support victims, and make our communities safer for everyone.

Hatred and violence have no place in our city.

When someone is assaulted or abused due to their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or whether they are transgender, then a hate crime may have occurred, and you should report this to the police.

We are committed to a Met that is completely anti-discriminatory and treats all Londoners fairly – policing without fear or favour.

We have recently announced the launch of our brand-new Community Protection Teams, bringing together neighbourhood, specialist and counter terrorism officers together to tackle hate in all of its forms.

More details of what counts as a hate crime or incident can be found on our website, as well as tool to report hate crime specifically, including if it was online.

Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

We want your help to shape the future of policing across London. We are seeking your views on our new inclusion strategy to ensure that the Met is a police service that is trusted, representative and more effective at keeping London safe. You can have your say on our Inclusion Strategy consultation which runs until Thursday 26 November.
