Hate Crime Awareness Week | Sophie Lancaster Foundation

Hate Crime Awareness Week | Sophie Lancaster Foundation

This week is Hate Crime Awareness Week, an opportunity to stand together against prejudice, discrimination and hate in all its forms.

Today, officers from Leicestershire Police met with representatives from the Sophie Lancaster Foundation to discuss how we can continue working together to challenge hate and promote understanding across our communities.

As part of this partnership, we are exploring opportunities to develop and deliver training for officers across Leicestershire, helping to increase awareness, improve understanding and ensure the best possible support for victims of hate crime.

The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established in memory of Sophie Lancaster, who was targeted because of her alternative appearance.

The charity works tirelessly to challenge prejudice, educate communities and encourage respect for individuality and difference.

Hate has no place in our communities. Whether motivated by race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, transgender identity, or alternative subcultures, hate crime can have a significant and lasting impact on those affected.

During Hate Crime Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to:

 Celebrate diversity

 Challenge prejudice and discrimination

 Support victims of hate crime

Report hate incidents and hate crime

Stand up for respect and inclusion

By working together with our communities, schools, partners and charities such as the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, we can create safer, stronger and more inclusive communities for everyone.
