School Parking Reminder
We have received concerns from residents about parking around schools during drop-off and pick-up times. Whilst we understand these periods can be busy, we ask all drivers to park responsibly and consider the impact their parking may have on others.
Vehicles parked on pavements, across dropped kerbs, in front of driveways, and on yellow zig-zag markings outside schools can cause significant issues for local residents and create unnecessary hazards. These markings are in place to create a clear and safe area outside school entrances, improving visibility for children crossing the road and helping to reduce the risk of collisions.
Drivers are reminded that the times of operation for school keep-clear (zig-zag) markings are displayed on the roadside signage, and restrictions apply during those stated times. Parking or stopping on these markings when the restrictions are in force may result in enforcement action being taken.
Obstructed footpaths may force pedestrians, including children, parents with pushchairs, and those using mobility aids, into the road, putting them at risk. Parking on zig-zag markings or close to junctions can also reduce visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, increasing the likelihood of collisions.
Please be mindful of those who live near our schools and ensure access to driveways, junctions, footpaths, and designated school safety zones is kept clear at all times.
Most importantly, think about the safety of our children. Poorly parked vehicles can make it difficult for children to cross the road safely and for drivers to see them clearly, particularly during busy school run periods.
Officers will continue to carry out patrols around schools and, where necessary, enforcement action may be taken against vehicles that are parked illegally, causing an obstruction, parking on school keep-clear markings, or putting others at risk.
