⚠️ Scam Warning - Preston Road ⚠️

🚨 Protect Yourself Against Scams🚨

We have received information about a suspicious individual operating in the vicinity of Preston Road Underground Station.

A resident was recently approached by a man claiming to be from the council who accused her of dropping a cigarette butt and stated that he had filmed the incident. The male was reportedly confrontational and attempted to challenge her regarding the alleged offence.

Criminals and fraudsters often rely on creating pressure, confusion and urgency to persuade people to hand over money or personal details.

If approached by someone claiming to be from the council, enforcement team or another official organisation:

✅ Always ask to see official identification.

✅ Take time to verify who they are. Genuine council or enforcement officers should be able to provide proof of identity and explain their role.

✅ Never make an immediate payment or hand over your bank card.

✅ Do not share personal or financial information with anyone you are unsure about.

✅ Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, end the conversation and walk away.

✅ If you feel intimidated, threatened or believe a crime is taking place, call 999.

Please remain alert and speak to family members, neighbours and vulnerable residents who may be more susceptible to this type of approach. Sharing information and reporting suspicious behaviour helps protect our community and enables police to build a clearer picture of what is happening locally.

If you have experienced a similar incident in the Preston Road area, please report it to police.

Stay alert. Stay safe. Challenge suspicious behaviour and never feel pressured into making a payment on the spot.
