Crime Prevention Advice: Bike Safety |

Good Morning Residents, As a lot of individuals have brought this up, I thought it would be a good idea for you all to have a read of this.
A bicycle can be stolen in seconds if it's not secured properly. Whether you're commuting, exercising, or enjoying a day out, taking a few extra moments to secure your bike could prevent it from becoming a target.
✅ Lock It Properly 🔒 Invest in a high-quality D-lock or Sold Secure-rated lock. 🚲 Lock the frame and rear wheel to a secure bike stand or immovable object. 🔗 Use a second lock or cable to secure the front wheel. ❌ Don't lock just the wheel. Thieves may simply remove it and take the rest of the bike.
📍 Choose Your Parking Location Wisely 💡 Park in well-lit, busy areas. 📹 Use locations covered by CCTV where possible. 👀 Position your bike where it is visible to passing members of the public. 🚫 Avoid leaving your bike unattended in isolated locations for long periods.
🏠 Secure Your Bike at Home 🔒 Lock your bike even when stored in a shed, garage or communal area. 🚪 Ensure sheds and garages are fitted with quality locks. 💡 Consider additional security such as alarms, lighting or CCTV.
🏷️ Record and Register Your Bike 📸 Take photographs of your bicycle. 🔢 Record the frame number, make, model and any distinguishing features. 📝 Keep receipts and proof of ownership where possible. 🚔 Take Advantage of Police Bike Marking 🏷️ Many police forces and community safety partners run bike marking events, where bicycles are security marked and registered. ✅ Security marking makes it easier to identify your bike. ✅ Marked bikes are less attractive to thieves. ✅ If recovered by police, a marked and registered bicycle is more likely to be returned to its owner. 👮 Keep an eye on your local police social media channels and community events for upcoming bike marking sessions.
🎒 Remove Accessories 💡 Take lights, cycle computers, cameras and other accessories with you. 🎒 Don't leave removable items attached to your bike.
🚨 If Your Bike Is Stolen 📞 Report the theft to police as soon as possible. 📸 Provide photographs and proof of ownership if available. 🔢 Share the frame number and any bike marking or registration details. 📍 Include the location and time the bike was last seen.
💙 Remember Most bicycle thieves are looking for the easiest target. By using good-quality locks, parking smartly and getting your bike security marked, you can make your bicycle far less attractive to criminals.
