A man was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday 14 October) following a spate of recent vehicle interferences and thefts in Kidderminster. Plain-clothed police were on a proactive operation in the Comberton, Spennells, Aggborough and Offmore areas in response to reports of people trying vehicle door handles to insecure vehicles before conducting untidy searches of vehicle interiors and stealing property. Suspects have often used pedal cycles to travel between locations as well as making efforts to conceal their identity through face coverings, making post-incident identification challenging. Yesterday morning at around 4am we received reports of a man trying vehicle door handles on Vicarage Crescent with a good description of the suspect and police were on scene within a couple of minutes. Officers contained the area and conducted searches based before locating a suspect who was detained and a search of him found items consistent with from vehicle offences, including a screwdriver, lock pick, hand torch and head torch. He was also carrying several items suspected to have been stolen, including a winning scratch card, a vape with lipstick residue on the mouthpiece, jewellery, a brooch, a bobble hat and loose change. He was further found in possession of a quantity of suspected class A drugs. A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of interfering with a motor vehicle, theft from vehicle and possession of class A drugs. He was taken to custody, before being released on bail and enquiries are ongoing. Following the arrest, officers reviewed CCTV from the area which led them to locate a bag containing food items and personal property suspected to have been stolen from vehicles overnight. PC Max Tandy from Kidderminster Police said: “This was a good arrest from our patrols of areas where we have had reports of vehicle interference and thefts recently, successfully identifying, located and detaining a suspect. “We would like to ask the public to come forward if they believe their vehicle has been entered overnight and if they have had items taken. If they can provide CCTV and provide information to what items have been taken this will benefit our investigation.” Anyone with this information should contact PC Tandy at max.tandy@westmercia.police.uk | ||
