As part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week, Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) from Leeds East Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) visited faith congregations in Seacroft and Burmantofts on Sunday (11/10), to engage with local communities, promote awareness of hate crime, and provide advice, support and reassurance. PCSO’s Coe and Taylor started their Sunday morning at The Bridge Community Church in Burmantofts, where they engaged with the congregation before and after their service. This was followed by an afternoon visit to the Forward in Faith Church in Seacroft, Leeds to engage with the congregation after their service. The PCSO’s engaged with congregation members about reporting hate crime, while sharing information leaflets and guidance on accessing support services. The communities were also encouraged to sign up to Community Alert to receive local policing updates and crime prevention messages. Young people enjoyed meeting officers and trying on mini police uniforms, and colouring in police pictures, which helped to create positive interactions and conversations about policing and community safety. The engagements were well received and the young people enjoyed meeting the local PCSO’s again and look forward to them returning in the near future. Leeds East NPT are committed to engaging with and working alongside faith groups to promote inclusion, support victims, and build stronger, safer communities for everyone. The activity and engagements delivered reflected the aims of Hate Crime Awareness Week to increase understanding, encourage reporting, and strengthen relationships with communities and we are committed to engaging with all the communities we serve. Did you know you can request your local NPT to attend events or deliver engagements? You can request contact at Contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team | West Yorkshire Police, once the request has been submitted you will receive initial contact within seven days to arrange attendance. We would like to build on the positive community relations we have already formed across various communities in East Leeds, and we welcome requests from all of the communities we serve and look forward to hearing from you.
