Fraud and Scams Alert

Fraud and Scams Alert

We know you flagged that fraud is a concern for you, so this is a quick update to tell you how we’re addressing concerns and supporting residents.

We’re reminding residents to stay alert to fraud and scam attempts that continue to affect people across London. Criminals often use messages, phone calls or online platforms to trick individuals into giving away money or personal information.

Key Advice

• Be cautious with unexpected messages : If you weren’t expecting it, treat it as suspicious.
• Never share bank details or passcodes : Legitimate organisations will never ask for these.
• Avoid clicking unknown links : These can lead to fake websites designed to steal information.
• Verify callers independently : Hang up and call back using the official number from the organisation’s website.
• Check if a message is genuine : Look for spelling errors, pressure tactics, or unusual requests.
• Report fraud attempts : You can report scams to Action Fraud for investigation.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. Take a moment, double check, and don’t let anyone rush you into making a decision.

Stay safe and stay aware.

We consider fraud to be a serious crime and will put the time in to tackle it however we can. In the meantime, there are ways to keep yourself safe.
