National Hate Crime Awareness Week

#NoPlaceForHate | National Hate Crime Awareness Week

This week marks National Hate Crime Awareness Week, and we're encouraging everyone to help create safer, more inclusive communities where people feel respected, valued and welcome.

What is a hate crime?

A hate crime is any criminal offence that is perceived to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards someone because of their:

• Race or ethnicity
• Religion or belief
• Sexual orientation
• Disability
• Transgender identity

Hate crime is not always physical. It can include:

• Verbal abuse
• Threats or intimidation
• Harassment
• Criminal damage
• Online abuse

What can you do?

✅ Report it - If you experience or witness a hate crime, let us know.

✅ Speak up - Challenge prejudice safely and support those affected.

✅ Look out for others - Check on victims and encourage them to access support.

✅ Raise awareness - Help friends, family and neighbours understand the impact hate crime can have on individuals and communities.

Remember, you do not have to be the victim to report a hate crime.

How to report

🌐 Report online: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/hatecrime

📞 Call 101 for non-emergency police assistance.

🚨 Call 999 if a crime is taking place, someone is in immediate danger, or there is a threat to life or serious harm.

Support for victims

Support is available through Uniting Staffordshire Against Hate (USAH), which offers free and confidential practical and emotional support to eligible victims of hate crime.

Together, we can make a difference

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, free from fear, hostility and prejudice. By reporting hate crime, supporting victims and standing together against discrimination, we can help make Staffordshire a safer place for everyone.
