Crucial Crew

Crucial Crew

Officers from Heywood Neighbourhood Policing Team recently took part in the annual Crucial Crew event, held at Milnrow cricket club, alongside a number of partner agencies including North West Ambulance Service, British Transport Police, environmental services and local education providers.

The event brought together Year 6 pupils from schools across the borough to help prepare them for the transition to secondary school by providing important advice on a range of safety and wellbeing topics.

As part of the event, officers delivered presentations focused on online safety, online bullying and online harassment, providing practical advice on how young people can protect themselves online, report concerns and seek support when needed. Officers also discussed the safe use of social media platforms and online gaming, encouraging children to think about the impact their online actions can have on themselves and others.

Throughout the day, students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their thoughts and experiences. The engagement from pupils was excellent, with many demonstrating a strong understanding of the topics discussed and showing a genuine interest in how they can keep themselves and their friends safe online.

The event also provided an excellent opportunity for partnership working, with agencies sharing knowledge and expertise to deliver consistent safeguarding messages to local young people. By working together, we were able to provide children with information and support from a wide range of professional perspectives.

Events such as Crucial Crew play an important role in helping young people build confidence, increase awareness of personal safety, and understand where to go for help and advice when they need it.

A big thank you to all partner agencies, schools and staff involved in making the day a success. Through positive engagement and early education, we can continue working together to keep our communities safe and support the next generation of young people.
