Good Afternoon Residents of Holland, I hope you are all well, As you know we have a lovely Highstreet on the ward which tends to get a bit busy at times and I just wanted to make you all aware of Pickpocketing.
Pickpocketing: Busy shopping areas, transport hubs, events, and tourist attractions can attract opportunistic thieves looking to steal wallets, mobile phones, and other valuables. Taking a few simple precautions can help reduce your risk of becoming a victim of pickpocketing. Top tips to protect yourself from pickpockets: ✅ Keep valuables out of sight. Store phones, wallets, purses, and other valuable items securely and avoid displaying them unnecessarily. ✅ Use secure bags. Keep bags zipped, fastened, and close to your body, particularly in crowded places. ✅ Avoid carrying valuables in back pockets. Front pockets, inside pockets, or secure compartments are generally safer. ✅ Stay alert in busy areas. Pickpockets often target distracted individuals in crowded locations such as public transport, shopping centres, and events. ✅ Be cautious if approached by strangers. Some offenders may use distractions, such as asking for directions or creating a disturbance, while an accomplice attempts to steal belongings. ✅ Keep a close eye on your belongings. Never leave bags, phones, or wallets unattended, even for a short time. ✅ Limit the amount of cash you carry. Where possible, use secure payment methods and only carry what you need. ✅ Protect your personal information. Be mindful when handling bank cards, PINs, or personal documents in public places. Criminals often rely on distraction and opportunity. By remaining vigilant and keeping your belongings secure, you can significantly reduce the chances of becoming a victim of pickpocketing. If you witness suspicious behaviour, such as individuals closely following others, creating distractions, or acting unusually in crowded areas, please report it. Information from the public can help identify offenders and prevent further crimes. 📞 In an emergency, always call 999. 📞 For non-emergency concerns, contact 101 or report online through the Metropolitan Police Website. Together, we can help protect our community and prevent crime. 👛📱 Stay One Step Ahead of Pickpockets Pickpockets often target busy locations where people may be distracted.
