🌙 Police Safety Alert: Staying Safe During the Darker Evenings

With the clocks changing soon and darker nights drawing in, we would like to encourage residents to take a few extra precautions to help reduce the risk of crime and keep our communities safe.

🚶 Personal Safety

Stick to well-lit and populated routes where possible.

Let somebody know your plans if travelling alone, especially during the evening.

Avoid distractions such as using mobile phones or wearing headphones at high volume when walking.

Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, move to a safe place and call for assistance.

🚗 Vehicle Security

Always lock your vehicle, even if leaving it unattended for only a short time.

Remove valuables from sight and take them with you whenever possible.

Ensure windows, sunroofs and doors are fully secured.

Consider parking in well-lit areas or locations covered by CCTV.

🏡 Home Security

Keep doors and windows locked, even when at home.

Use exterior lights, timer switches or smart lighting to give the impression the property is occupied.

Secure sheds, garages and outbuildings where tools and bicycles may be stored.

Report any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood.

🚴 Cyclists and Pedestrians

Wear reflective or high-visibility clothing when walking, running or cycling after dark.

Ensure bicycles are fitted with working lights and reflectors.

Make yourself as visible as possible to other road users.

📞 Reporting Concerns

If you witness suspicious behaviour, attempted thefts, or anti-social behaviour, please report it to us. In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency matters, contact 101 or report online via the Staffordshire Police website.
