Homelessness & Support Available in Rochdale during Darker Nights |
||
|
As the nights become colder and darker, many vulnerable people across our communities may be facing difficulties, including homelessness, rough sleeping, isolation, mental health challenges and financial hardship.
Your local neighbourhood policing team regularly works alongside partners to identify and support vulnerable individuals. Whilst homelessness is not a policing matter in itself, officers/PCSOs frequently carry out welfare checks, make referrals to support agencies, engage with rough sleepers, and work with partner organisations to ensure those in need are connected with the help available. If you see someone sleeping rough or you are concerned for their welfare, support is available locally. Petrus Hub provides services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, including food, clothing, shower and laundry facilities, healthcare access, outreach support, housing advice and referrals to accommodation.
Across the borough, organisations including Petrus, Sanctuary Trust, Brentwood Day Centre and other community groups, Army of Kindness, faith organisations and charities work tirelessly to provide food, warm spaces, guidance and practical support to vulnerable residents.
Rochdale Borough Council and local outreach teams continue to engage with rough sleepers, helping individuals access accommodation, welfare services and longer-term support. The council's outreach teams regularly patrol known locations and seek to ensure nobody is left behind.
PCSOs patrol our neighbourhoods during the darker months, we will continue to check on vulnerable individuals where concerns are identified, work with our partners to safeguard those at risk, and take action where criminality, exploitation or anti social behaviour affects members of our community.
A simple conversation, welfare check or report can make a significant difference to somebody who may be struggling. Together, we can help ensure vulnerable people receive the support they need and help keep our communities safe this winter.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger or requires urgent medical assistance, call 999. For non-emergency concerns, contact 101 or report online. If you are concerned about someone sleeping rough, referrals can also be made to local support services such as Petrus and Rochdale Borough Council.
