A woman has been handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to causing the deaths of two people following a fatal road traffic collision in Brandon in 2023.
37-year-old Jasmine Dessaure of Linden Walk, Beck Row, appeared before Peterborough Crown Court today, Friday 9 October, where she was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
Dessaure had pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by careless driving at a previous hearing.
The incident occurred at around 5.40pm on Saturday 15 April 2023, on the B1106 at Brandon. A Jeep Cherokee vehicle, being driven by Jasmine Dessaure and travelling from the Brandon direction, swerved into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a Nissan Note car driving in the opposite direction. Both vehicles left the carriageway and the Nissan caught fire.
The driver and passenger in the Nissan sadly died at the scene. They were subsequently identified as husband and wife Dilipan Sebastiampillai (aged 43) and Dorota Sebastiampillai (aged 41), from the London Borough of Haringey.
During the collision investigation, it was determined that successive oversteering by Dessaure had caused her to lose control of her vehicle, cross into the opposite carriageway and collide with the oncoming Nissan.
Dessaure was charged on Thursday 18 December 2025 with two counts of causing death by careless driving.
In addition to her sentence, she was disqualified from driving for 18 months and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
DC Kelly Dale, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic collision in which Dilipan and Dorota Sebastiampillai lost their lives, leaving their families and loved ones to deal with unimaginable loss. I would like to thank the families for their patience and dignity during the investigation and court process.
“This case is a stark reminder of the responsibility every driver has when they get behind the wheel. Even momentary loss of control can have devastating and irreversible consequences.
“I would also like to thank the members of the public and emergency services who did everything they could to help at the scene.”
