I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Doorstep Parcel Theft
Dear Resident, Online shopping and home deliveries have become part of everyday life, but unattended parcels can attract opportunistic thieves. Taking a few simple precautions can help ensure your deliveries reach you safely.
Top tips to keep your parcels secure: ✅ Use alternative delivery options where possible, such as parcel lockers, collection points, or delivery to your workplace. ✅ Track your delivery and make use of delivery notifications so you know when your parcel is due to arrive. ✅ Choose a safe place for parcels to be left if your delivery provider offers this option. ✅ Collect parcels promptly and avoid leaving them visible outside your property for extended periods. ✅ Be mindful of what you share online. Posting about expensive purchases or upcoming deliveries can unintentionally attract unwanted attention.
✅Install a video doorbell; this can be connected to your mobile so you are notified immediately of any delivery, and is easier to install than a full CCTV system
Criminals often look for easy opportunities. By planning ahead and taking a few simple security measures, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of parcel theft.
If your parcel has been lost or stolen:
Contact the retailer: Inform them that the item has not arrived or was stolen from an unauthorised location and request a replacement or full refund. Gather evidence: Collect any available tracking information, delivery photos, or CCTV/doorbell camera footage. Report to the police: Contact 101 to obtain a crime reference number, which helps with retailer disputes or insurance claims. Use your payment protection: If the retailer refuses to help, raise a chargeback or claim request with your card provider.
