Crime Prevention Talk, Home Security, Vehicle Security and Burglary Prevention - 06/10/2026

Today, PCSOs Sethi and Titcombe from Ilford Town Ward attended a community engagement event at the Disabled Asian Women's Network held at the Cardinal Heenan Centre, High Road, Ilford. The event was attended by local residents and community members, providing an opportunity to strengthen relationships between the Metropolitan Police and the local community.

During the session, PCSO Sethi delivered a one-hour crime prevention presentation focusing on home security, vehicle security and burglary prevention. The talk provided practical advice aimed at reducing the risk of residents becoming victims of crime and encouraging proactive crime prevention measures.

Topics discussed included:

The importance of securing doors and windows and ensuring locks are regularly maintained.

Keeping valuables such as mobile phones, handbags, jewellery and car keys out of sight.

Using security lighting, CCTV and doorbell cameras as effective crime deterrents.

Safety considerations when leaving properties unoccupied, including the use of timer switches and trusted neighbours.

Vehicle security advice, including removing valuables from vehicles, locking vehicles correctly and protecting against keyless vehicle theft.

Burglary prevention measures, including securing rear access points, sheds and garages, and recognising suspicious behaviour.

Reporting crime and anti-social behaviour through the appropriate police channels, including 999, 101 and online reporting services.

The presentation was delivered in both English and Urdu/Punjabi, ensuring the information was accessible to all attendees and promoting greater engagement with members of the local Asian community. Attendees actively participated throughout the session, asked questions relating to local crime prevention concerns and were receptive to the advice provided.

The engagement helped increase awareness of personal safety and crime prevention measures while reinforcing community confidence in local policing. Positive interaction with residents enabled PCSOs to promote key safety messages, encourage the reporting of suspicious activity and further strengthen partnerships with local community groups.

Outcome: Positive community engagement, increased crime prevention awareness, reassurance provided to attendees and strengthened links between Ilford Town Ward officers and the Disabled Asian Women's Network.
