Custodial Sentence For Prolific Shoplifter - Stockport East Neighbourhood Team |

Good afternoon Resident,
Another prolific offender is behind bars after repeatedly targeting a business in Hazel Grove!
Following a recent arrest and charge, Christopher Lynam, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to imprisonment for a series of shoplifting offences.
The court imposed a 4-week custodial sentence for each offence, to run concurrently, finding that the offences were so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence could be justified. The court noted the defendant's flagrant disregard for people and their property.
Whilst some may view shoplifting as a low-level offence, the reality is that repeat offenders cause significant harm to local businesses, place staff in difficult and often intimidating situations, and undermine the sense of safety within our communities.
This result sends a clear message that persistent offending will not be tolerated. We will continue to work closely with retailers, security staff and partner agencies to identify those responsible, build robust case files, and bring repeat offenders before the courts.
I would like to thank the businesses affected for their patience, cooperation and willingness to provide evidence. Your reporting makes a difference and helps us secure outcomes such as this.
Neighbourhood policing is about protecting our communities, supporting victims and ensuring that those who repeatedly target local businesses are held accountable for their actions.
