Hate Crime Awareness Week 2026 10-17th October is Hate Crime Awareness Week. The annual event is organised by the charity 17-24-30 NationalHCAW. It is a week of action that encourages authorities (government, police and councils), key partners (business and voluntary sectors), and communities affected by hate crime to work together to tackle hate crime across the UK. Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Community Safety Officer and representatives from the charity Entraide will be joining the Neighbourhood Policing Team at the Residents Hub on 10th October at the Onward Club, see diary dates below. What is a Hate Crime? A hate crime is defined as 'Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person's race or perceived race; religion or perceived religion; sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation; disability or perceived disability and any crime motivated by hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender.' You can report a Hate Crime in person, online or through a designated reporting centre. A specialist or representative from your protected characteristic community can help you through the reporting process and offer support.
