Vehicle Crime Prevention |

Dear Residents, I am reaching out to inform you about a matter regarding vehicle theft in the area. May I kindly ask everyone to ensure that your vehicle is always locked and secure, and to avoid leaving keys hanging near the doors or in easily accessible locations, as this can invite unwanted attention. When parked on your drive or anywhere else, make sure all windows are up and that nothing of value is left in the vehicle. By doing so, you greatly reduce the possibility of it being targeted by thieves. Vehicles today are by and large more difficult to steal than ever, unless the thief can access your key or fob to clone them. Therefore, it is crucial to keep your keys safe, out of view when at home, and away from your front door. It’s not uncommon for car keys to be stolen from inside your home by thieves fishing for them with a stick and hook through the letterbox, so please remain vigilant. Cars equipped with keyless entry unlock automatically when the key comes within a short distance of the car. This can easily happen from inside a pocket or bag, so be mindful of your belongings. If you have to push a button on your car key to open your car, you do not have keyless entry, which is a useful distinction to keep in mind. Additionally, electronic devices can be used to jam the electronic signal from your key fob to lock your vehicle, so it is important to always manually check that your vehicle has locked securely before walking away. If unsure, lock it manually, then take a moment to check the area for anyone hanging around. If a potential thief who’s watching feels they have been spotted, they will probably move on, which is exactly what we want to achieve.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
