You raised shoplifting as a concern, so here’s a quick local update. 🚔 Proactive Operation at Sainsbury's Canal Way, W10 🚔
Following continued reports of theft offences and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in and around Sainsbury's, Canal Way W10, local officers recently carried out a targeted proactive operation to tackle crime and reassure the community.
As part of the operation, Police Community Support Officers set up a Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Met Engage Crime Prevention Stand along the canal at the rear of the store, speaking with residents, and visitors about personal safety, crime prevention and how to report concerns.
Alongside this engagement activity, plain clothes officers worked closely with store security staff and store detectives, focusing on identifying and disrupting those involved in shoplifting and other criminality.
✅ Results: • 4 shoplifters identified and dealt with through various criminal justice outcomes. • All offenders were issued with Community Protection Warnings (CPWs). A CPW is a formal warning used to tackle behaviour that has a detrimental effect on the local community. Failure to comply can result in further enforcement action. • All offenders were also issued with 6-month banning orders from Sainsbury's.
We want to provide reassurance to residents and businesses that shoplifting and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Those who commit theft offences should be aware that plain clothes officers will continue to operate in the area and work alongside security teams to identify, catch and prosecute offenders.
⚠️ If you're coming to our neighbourhood to steal, expect to be caught.
Further proactive operations will be taking place in the coming weeks as we continue to target offenders, support local businesses and keep our community safe.
If you have concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour in your area, please speak to your local policing team or report information via the Met website.
The Met is cracking down on street crime, like shoplifting, people doing drugs and phone-snatching. We’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals. We’re now arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals every month and seeing ‘neighbourhood crime’ down 14%. But we know there is more to do. That’s why we’re stepping up our use of technology, increasing our operations and working with retailers to make it less appealing for criminals to commit these crimes in the first place. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
