APPEAL: Can you help? |

Dear Resident,
We have received reports of individuals riding e-bikes in and around Newport in a dangerous and anti-social manner. We are keen to identify those responsible and are appealing for information from members of the public that may assist us with our enquiries.
The riders have been described as wearing dark clothing and face coverings while riding dark-coloured e-bikes. They have been seen along Newport High Street and in the Audley Avenue area. Due to the speeds at which these bikes are being ridden, it is believed they may not be legally compliant Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPCs).
The manner in which these bikes are being ridden poses a significant risk to pedestrians, motorists and other road users, and could result in serious injury. If you have any information that could help identify the riders, or if you know who they are, please contact us in confidence by emailing: newport.snt@westmercia.police.uk
Electric Bikes: The RulesYou can ride an electric bike, also known as an Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC), without a licence, insurance or vehicle tax if you are aged 14 or over and the bike meets the legal requirements. An EAPC must: If a bike does not meet these requirements, it may be classified as a moped or motorcycle, meaning it must be registered, taxed, insured, and ridden by a suitably licensed rider.

Thank you for your support in helping to keep Newport safe.
